The National Department of Public Works sponsored six buildings for the Gauteng Department of Social Development (DSD) meant to shelter victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and homeless people.
According to the department, they did not know whether the buildings were an outright donation or for lease, or short team usage.
The DA’s pressure pushed DSD to seek clarity from the Department of Public Works about these buildings and confirmed that they would be utilising them soon. However, DSD has still not used these buildings. So, while the department dithers, victims of GBV suffer.
Sign this petition demanding that the Gauteng Department of Social Development urgently utilises the six shelters to ensure:
- That the victims of GBV and Homeless people are given dignified places to stay until they can get on their feet;
- Safe homes are provided as a crucial step to getting victims away from perpetrators of GBV;
- The provision of food and first aid assistance to the homeless.
